Recognizing Other Forms of Discriminatory Harassment

Other forms of harassment

Sex and religion are not the only characteristics that can be targets of unlawful harassment. Remember that there are seven other federally protected characteristics that may be the basis of harassment:

  1. race
  2. color
  3. national origin
  4. disability
  5. age
  6. pregnancy
  7. genetic information

Unlawful harassment can occur when unwelcome conduct is directed toward an individual because of a personal characteristic that the law protects.

In addition to sex, there are eight other federally protected characteristics that can be the basis of unlawful harassment: race, color, national origin, religion, pregnancy, disability, age, and genetic information.
